Letter of Recommendation

As the dean of School of Journalism and Communication at Wuhan University, it’s an honor for me to recommend one of my students Shao Jingzhu as a competent candidate for acceptance into your graduate program.

I appreciate the talents of this bright young girl demonstrated during her academic studies in our school, as I know, her scores of major courses are very good and heads her same grade, which could be verified by her transcript. Shao Jingzhu was very active and innovative in academic research, especial on theory of radio and television, criticism and comments on audio- visual media. Most of her papers were original in viewpoints, sharp in language, profound and forward-looking on the current situation and development and were assessed as excellent models by our school. She set up a separate flag in practice, some of her advertisement works won honors in provincial competitions. As the most industrious student in our non-linear lab, she was diligent in program production. All of her professors highly appraised her as the pioneer stuent.

Though the grading system in our university is strict, her average score of 85 ranked her among the best. I think this is due to her rigorous attitude toward study and her strong capability of learning. In 2008 for her excellent performance in academic studies and English ability, she was sent to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as the exchange student. On her return back from Singapore we were amazed to find that she has made great improvement both in broadcasting production skills and theories knowledge of film. From her transcript

you could know that she even got A in one practical course Audio in Media by NTU, one hard subject for the student majored in journalism and communication. In her exchange life in NTU she has set up very good personal friendship with American professor Bradley Freeman. She was sent to take internship in CCTV news channel, where she improved herself greatly in short time. At the end of her internship she could complete the work of reporting domestic news independently.

Shao Jingzhu is so earnest, enthusiastic and mature in thinking, seldom in her peers. I recognize her abilities of study, research and participation in social work that she is qualified to be eolled by our interview graduate in Wuhan University. But she chose to make further studies, a new speciality for her, in your university. Therefore I would like to lend my full support to this top class student for her admission to your postgraduate program. She would be as good as in our university. Sincerely hope you will give her application favorable consideration, as she truly deserves so. You would like this lovely and diligent student.

Dear Colleagues:

I am Head of the Department of International Finance in the School of Economics at the Beijing University, perhaps the most prestigious university in China, and I am writing to recommend Mr. Hui Dushu, one of my favorite students, for acceptance into your Master&aposs program.

I got to know him personally last semester when he was taking the course of Special Topics on International Finance that I was teaching. In the class, he showed great interest in economics. He studied conscientiously and often talked with me after the class about the questions that he had come across in his readings. Once when we talked about the country&aposs ongoing restructuring of its tax system, he delved into the increasing cost of tax evasion. We then discussed several methods of calculating the cost. As we talked, I found that he was very skilled in expressing his ideas through diagrammatic curves and mathematics. Recognizing that the government&aposs attitudes to acts oftax evasion will affect not only people&aposs behavior but also the cost of levying taxes, he saw possible solutions to the problem in the Game Theory. I encouraged him to pursue this idea. He said he didn&apost know much about the Game Theory and proceeded to borrow some essays by Nash from me. He thus left me with a deep impression.

Studying with conscientiousness, Mr. Hui often came up with creative ideas. Unlike some other students, he studied not to just pass the exams but to really improve his knowledge and expertise. He stands out among his fellow classmates with an unmistakable thirst for genuine understanding of the country&aposs economic realities and problems. That has won him appreciation from not just me but my colleagues as well. But he did do well in exams too. In the final exam of last semester, he got a high score of 90 for my course.

He often talks with me about his ideal to become an economist. To help quench his thirst for knowledge, I have lent many of my own books to him andtutored him in his self-study program. He has been much more engrossed in doing independent research than preparing for exams, but his grades still keep him ranked among the top 25% of his class. I think he is a very intelligent young fellow.

Mr. Hui has a good command of the English language. As he is well acquainted with me, he has often helped me in my own research by translating some English essays that I am too busy to translate. His translations are usually quite good. His oral English is good too. Compared with other Chinese students who may be applying to your program, I think Mr. Hui should be considered more favorably.

Well grounded in the theories of economics and the methodologies of economic research, and proficient in English, Mr. Hui should make an outstanding student in graduate studies. I have not seen many Chinese students who are so intent on achieving an academic career in economics. If you accept him, you will find that his drive and sense of purpose very contagious among the students. In view of all that I know of him, I strongly recommend him. If youwant to know more about him, please don&apost hesitate to contact with me.

Sincerely,

Ming Jiaoshou

To whom it may concern:

I am a senior engineer and the head of Transmission Business Department of Great Dragon Telecommunications Group. As the instructor of him in his graduation fieldwork, I am very glad to write this letter in support of Mr. Gregory Tang‘s application for studying in your university.

I got to know Mr. Tang in 19xx when I was the head of a research and development team on 2.5G SDH optical telecommunications transmitting system, a part of the State 863 Program. He was recommended to me as a top student of Peking Post and Telecommunications University. After strict examinations, I accept him as a member of our team. Although Mr. Tang worked with us for only one year, his research ability, diligence, and team spirit really impressed all of us.

Mr. Tang has strong independent research and exploit ability. When working in our team, he was responsible for the research task of mapping four 34Mb/s signals into a STM-1. He creatively solved the problem of De-mapping and jitter restriction of PDH signals in SDH system. This research raised the transport efficiency of 34Mb/s signals by 33% so as to meet users‘ higher demand. This technology successfully passed the test of the Information Industry Ministry and was applied to the broadcasting and TV transmission experimental network of HuNan Province later.

Mr. Tang is proficient in English. He can communicate with foreign specialists in English, which is rare among Chinese young people. I think language will not be an obstacle for his study and life abroad.

Telecommunications industry is a rising industry in China. Chinese government is giving full support to its development. I support Mr. Tang‘s decision, and hope that he will come back to make more contribution to our motherland after he finishes his program abroad. I would be very grateful if you could give his application your fullest consideration.

Yours sincerely,

to whom it may concern:

i am very pleased to recommend xxx for admission to your university program. as her guidance counselor for three years i have watched this young woman develop both academically and personally into a mature individual ready in every way for her college years.

x is bright, energetic, compassionate and genuinely well rounded. her grades have been consistently above average in all of her courses, and she has actively participated in a diverse assortment of extracurricular activities ranging from track and field and chorus to the school yearbook and our drama club.

x has also spent considerable time outside the school involved in the community. this has included work with meals on wheels and volunteering 10 hours a week at one of our areas shelters for battered and abused women.

they think so much of her at the shelter they have offered her a paid internship for next summer. previously, this internship had never been awarded to anyone before the end of their college sophomore year. despite all the preparations that will be required for going off to college next fall, x told me she is absolutely thrilled about this opportunity and feels it will enhance her university studies.

unlike many students who are not sure which field to pursue, x has made clear to us all that her goal is to do social work. to this end she has worked tirelessly in our pilot program for mentoring special education students mainstreamed into our school. in closing, let me take a moment to recount an incident which i believe speaks volumes about the superior nature of this candidate. two years ago i was returning from lunch to my office when i saw ahead of me in the hallway 90 pound x, arms stretched out between two 180+ pound students, one a special ed student and the other a school bully. other students were standing by motionless or laughing while x showed the leadership and courage to immediately put an end to the embarrassing fight that had erupted.

it is clear to me as i hope it is to you that this young woman, x holden, is an exceptional candidate, one that would contribute greatly to any program. i wholeheartedly recommend her and wish her the very best in all future endeavors. sincerely,

xxx

At Miss request for a reference, I present my highest recommendation of her candidacy for admission to your esteemed graduate program.

Serving as Miss tutor since 2019, I have had a first-hand opportunity to observe Miss *campus life. She stepped into my sight as a girl who was highly motivated and innovative. She talked with me her plan for studying abroad when she was only a freshman. I often find her submerging herself in the library, reading the latest international journals to keep abreast of the cutting-edged developments in the field of accounting and finance. She also displays a strong ability in critical thinking. For example, she made a profound and comprehensive analysis on China’s booming stock market in 2019 after saying “Good bye” to the former “Dragging Bear”. Due to her great enthusiasm and consistent efforts, she enjoyed an increasing GPA trend and obtained scholarships for four consecutive years. In my course international investment, she got an excellent mark of 96, ranking in the top 5%.

As well as being extremely gifted academically, Miss Zhang Yi demonstrates a high degree of leadership capacity and organizational skills. As a secretary of our school’s student union, she arranged various city-wide activities. I remembered that she organized our school team to take part in the debating competition among capital schools. She consulted experts, collected information, and helped training the competitors. All these efforts contributed to our school team’s winning the second place in the competition.

According to my contacts with her, I think Miss Zhang Yi is a very promising young girl who is worthy your consideration. Should you want further information about her, feel free to contact me directly. Thank you!

Sincerely,

One of my best students called turns to me for help on recommending these days. I am very happy to do so. I am a senior professor in Institute of Educational Administration & Training in Southwest University. Based on what I have known about Mr. Wang, I can tell something to you about him.

I have known about for nearly 6 years in the first half year of 20xx. Though I have taught thousands of students, I can still remember him. I have taught him two courses, one was System Engineering Theory in 20xx, and the other was Educational System Engineering in 20xx. I still remembered that he got the highest scores in his class, the first is 99 and the last is 100. How outstanding the student is! He is smart and impressive!

For a PhD candidate, from my point, I think he is qualified and preeminent. He is famous among our students for his research ability and kind heart. I heard that he published more 20 papers. At first, I was so surprising on such a graduate student. When I read some of articles in journals, I found that his papers are rational construction and logical argument. And some of the journals are hard to be selected. I do not know the sociological field clearly, but I know the educational field in China, for example, Open Education Research, Continue Education Research, and Adult Education, all of them are core journals and hard to publish a paper as a first author is a graduate student, some times for our professors. As a graduate student, his abilities on studying and research are excellent. And also, his total score is No.1 during his first two years of graduate studying. He got the first-prize scholarship of graduate student in our university. This is the encouragement from our university to conform his effort and diligence.

As for me, I appreciate those of his abilities very much. Those are his thinking ability, potential creative power and leadership skills. First, I want to tell you about his thinking ability. From his talking and homework, I found that he is a boy who is particular in analyzing the problem profoundly from the causes to results. Once we discussed about the problems of our state-owned enterprises and how to use the principles of System Engineering Science to solve these problems. After a week, he gave me a paper called Analyzing on Improving the Core Competence of State-owned Enterprises by System Engineering Principles in China. I read his paper and found that his idea was creative and logical. He pointed out the causes, analyzed the problems and gave some useful advices from the perspective of a manager. Not only that, he proposed that how to establish a high efficiency administrative and productive network by system engineer principles in the enterprisers. I could not express how I agreed with his view and to this paper, so I gave him 100 the full point.

Secondly, from his papers on the social security, I can find that his potential creative power on research. I take one of his eminent papers called The New Model of Chinese Rural Old-aged Support from the Perspective of Urbanization as an example. In this paper, he established a material and spiritual support network for the rural old

people in China. This network is attractive, if it can be really carried out in our nation, I think, it can help the old people who are like me to really enjoy our rest time. Though this is an ideal model, it can give the developmental direction to the rural social welfare. Certainly, many medias have cited and published this paper is not surprising for it is real a good paper as few graduate student can write.

Finally, his leadership skill is charming. Due to his social practice and part-time jobs as the students’ leader in our school, he earned how to use reasonable leadership skills to work with his partners and lead his subordinates to finish the works well. He is kind to his friends and workmates. I also know that he works as a college teacher on campus, I heard some high appraise about his courses from his colleagues who are my students. I congratulate him from bottom of my heart.

In sum, I strongly recommend him to you to study in your doctorate programs. Once I taught in USA, I knew how important this letter for him to apply your university. If you want to know more about Mr. Wang, please contact me by email, or cell phone in China.

Thank you very much.

Best wishes,

Yours,

Professor of Institute of Educational Administration & Training
