万圣节英语作文 1

ghosts and goblins are more than halloween decorations or costumes for many americans who confessed they believe in the supernatural and returning from the grave.

thirty—seven percent of 2,100 adults questioned in a zogby interactive poll said they think ghosts are real, and 23 percent believe they have been visited by a deceased relative or friend.

even the 22 percent who said they have not had any ghostly experiences themselves know someone who has.

"more than a third of americans have this belief that ghosts do exist," said a spokesman for zogby, adding that the findings were surprising.

nearly half of those questioned said if they could be a ghost, they would choose to come back as themselves.

but belief in the supernatural is not required to enjoy halloween. eighty—seven percent of parents said their children would be dressing up for the holiday and 71 percent would be trick—or—treating.

but 41 percent of adults said they were not celebrating halloween, including 12 percent who cited religious reasons.

serial killers were deemed to be the scariest costumes, followed by the walking dead and zombies.

TINY ghost—like dolls hang from trees, big plastic spiders sit on rooftops and bloody plastic hands reach out from gravestones…Are you ready for the scariest night of the year?

October 31 is Halloween, one of the most popular festivals in the US, Canada and Britain. The festival began as a day to remember the dead. But nowadays its all about the carnival atmosphere when people can enjoy dressing up and scaring each other.

Halloween is one of childrens favourite nights of the year. They dress up as monsters and go to their neighbourshouses. Knocking on the door they shout: "Trick or treat!" Of course, usually people give them "treats" - a like sweets and chocolates. But, if you dont, you can expect a prank such as having your car windows soaped or your garbage cans turned over.

Halloween is also a time for masquerade parties. Witches fly in on broomsticks, while ghosts and skeletons chat on the dance floor.

You can even dress up as a famous monster like Dracula! The motto is: "The scarier, the better." .”

Even making Halloween food should be like casting a spell or mixing a magic drink. In Britain, people drink "Witchs Mix", made with apple, orange, grape and berry juice. Children also enjoy "Halloween Worms," made from egg noodles. And how do you like the sound of "Eye—Balls"? Dont worry, theyre made with scoops of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, shaped like human eyes. Skeleton—shaped cookies are equally popular.

A well—known Halloween tradition is to make lanterns from pumpkins, called "Jack—o—lanterns". First, the inside of the pumpkin is removed. Then, a face is cut into the pumpkin, traditionally a smiling, devil face. Finally a candle is placed inside, and the lantern is put at the front of the house to keep evil spirits away.

Besides pumpkin cutting, "apple—bobbing" is another popular game. Several apples are put floating in water in a big bucket. Children have their hands tied behind their backs. They have to try to pick the apples out of the water using only their mouths. Of course, people get very wet and it is very funny to watch.

Today, I went to school with great interest. As soon as I arrived at school, I saw students wearing all kinds of masks, some pumpkins, some witches, some sorcerers. The mask they wear is terrible. Ha! Ha! Because today is Halloween. I quickly entered the classroom, put my bag down and put on my mask, my mask was a vampire.

In the morning, our activity was a runway show, and I walked up to the stage with a swagger and a scariest look, shaking everyone. To my surprise, the principal of our building also came to the Halloween party. He was wearing zorros mask and we didnt recognize him at all.

In the afternoon we went to the flea market. At the flea market I saw books, badges and so on. After bargaining, I used ten dollars to buy the seal, beef jerky, toy model.

This years Halloween carnival is really interesting. Im really looking forward to the next Halloween!

Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31. By tradition, Halloween begins after sunset. Long ago, people believed that witches gathered together and ghosts roamed the world on Halloween. I Still Remember That Halloween.

Days and days past, Im not a child any longer. But I still remember that Halloween, 31st October 2001. That was Saturday. I went to study English with an American girl named Debby as usual. We had 5 students altogether. Before that week, Debby had already told us to learn something about Halloween ourselves.

Children in costumes race from house to house asking for treats. A carved pumpkin, called a jack-o-lantern,grins from a porch as the children pass. According to legend,jack-o-lanterns protect people in their homes from ghostly spirits.

Its all part of the fun on Halloween! The roots of Halloween stretch back thousands of years and borrow customs from several parts of the world.

October 31 is the Western Halloween. As a Chinese child, I expect and admire it.

When it comes to Halloween, it reminds me of pumpkin lanterns, masks, sugar, zombies, witches and vampires. And the classic game of Halloween - trick or treat. These elements of Halloween make me feel terrible, exciting and interesting.

What makes me feel most horrible and exciting are zombies, witches and vampires. Not to mention their horrible names, not to mention their sombre make-up / disguise. They are just zombies with black eyes and dull eyes. Witches are like "ah ha ha ha ha..." And the vampire"s two sharp, white and long fangs make people feel creepy.

In addition to the horror, excitement, it also makes me feel lovely and interesting side. That"s the mask and the pumpkin lantern. This year I made an innovation for Halloween. I decided to make pumpkins, ghosts and witches with colored mud to decorate the corners of the house to welcome the coming Halloween.

When we think of halloween, we think of "trick or treat", pumpkins, jack o lanterns, vampires and haunted houses.

But do you know the origin of halloween? why does it fall on 31 october? what kind of festival is it? why is it so creepy?

Halloween dates back to a celtic festival called samhain. november 1 is the new year of the celts, who lived in europe more than a thousand years ago. this is the day which marked the end of summer and harvest.

The celts believed that on the night of october 31, ghosts of the dead would return to earth. the celts celebrated samhain by dressing up in costumes with animal heads and having bonfires.

Many celts settled in britain and ireland, where the festival became popular. those who moved to america took the tradition with them.

Nowadays, most people celebrate halloween but only for fun. they are not worried about ghosts.

Kids in america will dress up as devils or angels and will go from house to house calling "trick or treat", playing mischievous tricks and getting sweets.

Americans spend more money on halloween than christmas! in xx, more than hk$45 billion was spent on halloween. and hk$15 billion of that was spent on candy alone!!!

Kids in britain also dress up at halloween. they visit houses, sing songs or tell a joke to get sweets. many go to halloween parties and play games like "ducking for apples". you must pick up an apple in water but you can only use your mouth. try it!

The American tradition of "trick-or-treating" probably dates back to the early All Souls" Day parades in England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called "soul cakes" in return for their promise to pray for the family"s dead relatives.

The distribution of soul cakes was encouraged by the church as a way to replace the ancient practice of leaving food and wine for roaming spirits. The practice, which was referred to as "going a-souling" was eventually taken up by children who would visit the houses in their neighborhood and be given ale, food, and money.

The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. Hundreds of years ago, winter was an uncertain and frightening time. Food supplies often ran low and,for the many people afraid of the dark, the short days of winter were full of constant worry. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. On Halloween,to keep ghosts away from their houses, people would place bowls of food outside their homes to appease the ghosts and prevent them from attempting to enter.

You are about to graduate from primary school, still playing with toys? Is it too childish. We have come up with an alternative way to play, that is, at midnight, each of us brings his favorite toy to exchange. The purpose of deliberately picking midnight is to create some horrible atmosphere, which is so exciting!

Everyone is here. They brought robots, puppies, bear dolls, Barbie dolls, and a sponge baby. Thats enough.

At night, it was getting darker and colder, which made everyone have goose bumps. At this time, a vision happened. Puppy Puppet danced with SpongeBob. God damn it! Is it possessed by evil spirits? Barbie also moved. She reached out her hands with the robot and pinched them towards us.

We screamed with one voice and ran for our lives. Our legs became weak. When we escaped to the place with light, we were shocked and said, "Did we run into evil spirits? Why did we encounter such a terrible supernatural event?"

"Happy Halloween!" Our parents jumped out of nowhere and ran out in the middle of the night to punish us. In order to teach us a lesson, these great adults came up with this scary plan and added remote controls to each toy to scare us.

Dear Mom and Dad! Fortunately, our hearts are strong enough, otherwise you will die of grief if you are scared to death! Im scared to death, hum!

That was really beautiful and ugly, we liked it so much. Then she taught us how to make a pumpkin lantern by ourselves. We each held a small knife, learnt to cut and draw something on that pumpkin. Finally, we made it and put a short candle into it. That was truly happy. And the most surprising thing was that the lantern was a present for that day’s super student. Who will that be? My god! That was me! Do you know how excited I was then? I held it, jumping and shouting. That was the most unforgettable day to me. And I will not forget it, never!
