口语评分标准
想要达到预期的分数,还是要紧扣口语考试的评分标准,雅思口语共有四项评分标准:流利性和连贯性,词汇范围和准确性,语法范围和准确性,发音。
通过三个考试部分的考核,这四个标准分别得到相应的分数,平均分才是最终口语成绩。我们来一项项看中国学生的问题出在哪里。
词汇和语法
先看词汇和语法这两项中国学生比较熟悉且擅长的部分,多年来的应试教育使得中国学生学习语言的重点几乎都落在了背单词和做语法题这两个部分,客观地说,中国学生的词汇不少,至少很多学生表示“看到都能认识”,可“就是想不起来用”,而雅思口语的要求偏偏就是不见得词汇量有多少,而是是否学过的词都能用等很好。
比如我们在介绍building这个话题的时候,大多数同学其实想不起来architecture这样的词,但当这个词放在他们面前的时候,绝大多数同学都是认识的。所以雅思的词汇不等于词汇量大,等同于“能用”、“用得灵活”、“能够用有限的词汇表达复杂的意思”等更加侧重于应用的部分。语法其实跟词汇的问题类似,我们在中学里做了太多太多的语法题,会给句子挑错,能读懂很复杂的句子,但当我们自己在说的时候,往往就只会很简答的句子。
因此我们对雅思口语评分标准提及的词汇和语法不要过多的解读,其实记住“灵活运用”才是他的核心。然而跟词汇语法相比,流利性和连贯性以及语音才是我们达分提分的关键。
给考官留下好印象
从总体的情况来看,就大多数基础一般的同学来说,词汇和语法的差别不大,比较能体现学生口语水平的地方主要在“流利”和“语音”两大块,这就要从雅思口试“人人对话”的模式说起。既然考试的对象不是机器是人,那我们不能不忽略“人”的主观印象对学生英语口语能力的影响。
什么样的考生能让考官留下好的第一印象呢?首先,当然要听着“顺”,说话不能有频繁的停顿,“顺”其实代表的是对话题相关词汇和语法的熟练程度。哪怕内容并不复杂,但只要符合“顺”的要素,是绝对可以给考官留下很好的印象的,而事实证明,只要说得比较顺,没有很大的问题,大多数考生其实可以拿到6分的口语成绩。当然不得不承认,语音语调在这里也会起到一些作用。中国学生在口语表达是不够大方自信,而多年不开口也导致语音语调很平板没有启起伏,让听者不知不觉觉得很无聊,而分散了注意力。
加上中国考生众多,思路雷同,表达相近,所以很难拿到高分也是有自身的原因。但站在考官的角度,如果对方是个个性外向,表达出强烈的交流意愿,且竭尽所能用自己的语汇表达自己的想法,其实对考官来说至少是“有能力”的,也是“有趣的”,如果音调能够有抑扬顿挫,或者至少有起伏,听着“不无聊”,那其实6分的口语成绩也没有那么难。
如何短期提升口语能力
分析下来,针对大多数基础一般甚至较弱的同学来说,想要在短期内体提高雅思口语成绩,让自己迅速突破6的关卡,一练“流利”,二练“语音”。流利程度怎么来?很简单,老师上课讲的问题,或者自己回家复习的问题,是不是每一个都过关了?每一个都可以回答得很流利?如果没有,一个一个问题练,一遍不行说两遍,两遍不行说三遍,直到自己觉得自己终于说得顺畅了问题。每一个问题都要这样过,坚持下去,你会发现,很多表达是有相通之处的,之前练得很熟悉的表达说不定下次就能用得上。
但有同学会问,那我怎么保证我的内容好不好。之前提到过,口语里的词汇和语法对于大多数同学来说,水平相处并不大,而拉开差距的主要是熟练程度,哪怕内容简单些,但说得足够顺溜,对达到大多数同学出国留学的基本分数线,是够的。
所以,练习起来吧,口语没有捷径,谁花的功夫多,谁就一定可以有提高。
