这里推举大家多学习一些phrasal verbs,比如说screw up,piss off,blow away等。
比如说,for what it's worth, just for the record, speaking of which(whom), correct me if I am wrong, couldn't be happier, by the way, out of curiosity, off the top of my head, is there any chance…?
Dream
1.Do you often have dreams at night?
Yes, I dream every night
2.Have you had a bad dream before?
I do not usually have bad dreams, but I have ones where I was running away from someone, and trying to scream for help, but my voice would not come out. That was quite scary.
3.What was the strangest dream you have had?
The strangest dream I have ever had was about my dog. She had just died, and I was very upset, and in my dream she came to me and it seemed she was trying to tell me she was ok. I felt really strange, but somehow peaceful, as I was able to accept her death better.
4.What do you usually dream about?
I usually dream the most when I am about to go on a trip, or have an exam. They are classic worry dreams, where I forget to bring my passport, or to bring a pen for the exam, and then spend so long trying to find them I miss my flight, or miss the exam. I have that kind of dream quite often.
Transportation
1.What’s the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?
I would say that most people travel by bus, which is probably the cheapest way to get around. There are lots of different routes and the schedules are pretty convenient, although at peak times the buses can be absolutely packed!
2.How often do you take buses?
I take the bus every day to get from home to university. There’s a bus stop quite close to where I live so I don’t have to walk very far in the morning – and it’s only about a ten-minute walk when I get to the other end.
3.Can you compare the advantages of planes and trains?
Trains are the best way to travel long distances in China with a reasonable level of speed and comfort. Travelling by train is not expensive, either. Air travel is becoming more popular as it’s faster, but it’s a bit of a rigmarole when you have to arrive at the airport two hours before the departure time. There’s a lot of waiting around – and flights are often delayed, which makes the situation even worse.
4.Is driving to work popular in your country?
Some people drive to work but there is so much traffic that it can actually be faster to take public transport. If you drive, you also need to find somewhere to park when you arrive at your destination – and that can prove difficult.
5.Do you think people will drive more in the future?
These days, more people have their own cars than in the past, so driving to work is definitely becoming more popular. This is just making the traffic situation worse, though, and it’s adding to the problem of pollution. Having your own appeals to a lot of people, though, as it makes you more independent.
6.Would you ride bikes to work in the future?
Even though more people have their own cars these days, bicycles are still extremely common in China. I used to ride a bike when I was younger, but I prefer to take public transport when I’m travelling around my hometown. Riding a bicycle on busy streets during rush hour is not an enjoyable experience – the pollution is terrible and there are a lot of accidents.
7.What will become the most popular means of transportation in China?
Hopefully, in the future, more people will choose to use public transport such as buses or subways. A lot of research is currently being done to improve the transportation systems we have in place at the moment. We need to look for ways to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and making public transportation cheap, convenient and environmentally-friendly is the best way to try and encourage people to use it.
8.Do you prefer public transportation or private transportation?
At the moment, I definitely prefer private transportation because it’s so much more convenient. Even though it’s much more expensive to maintain your own car, most people really value the independence it gives you.
Describe a foreign food you ate
what it is
how do you know it
where you can eat it
why you like it
The food is quite simple that that I like to have as a special treat from time to time. I’ve always thought of it as a Greek speciality, although others tell me it actually originates from Egypt. Can you guess what it is? Houmous. I love it.
Basically, it is made from cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It is popular throughout the Middle East (including Turkey), North Africa (including Morocco), and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe, but it is also extremely popular with me, although I’m very particular about the sort I buy. I live near a wonderful delicatessen, it is run by a friendly couple, he is Italian and she is vintage Yorkshire. They make their own houmous with only the finest quality virgin olive oil and huge quantities of the best fresh garlic they can get hold of. It’s pretty expensive, but I love it, and it’s better than my own attempts for some reason, I don’t know why it shouldn’t be so hard to make.
Why do I like it? I think it is partly the texture, and partly the taste, I love garlic. Also, because I’m vegetarian it is a very healthy food, with lots of protein and quality fats that are good for you. Of course, you can have too much of a good thing, but I think it’s well worth it.
It is my favourite food not only because it is absolutely delicious, but also because you can share it with other people. It is best eaten as a dip, with friends. I cut up lots of carrots, cucumber and celery into crudités carefully sliced to make a colourful dish, perhaps with some slices of warm pitta bread too. A nice bottle of white wine helps. We can then all sit together enjoying the fresh humous dip, sipping our glasses of wine and laughing and talking to put the world to rights. It is a great way to enjoy a fabulous food.
